Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of Outpost Analytics (outpostanalytics.io), a free map made by Valencia Labs, LLC (“we”). By using the site you agree to them; if you don’t, please don’t use it.
What Outpost is
Outpost is a free screening tool that puts government hazard maps side by side for any point in California. It needs no account. It isn’t affiliated with, or endorsed by, any of the agencies whose data it shows.
Screening only, not advice
Screening only — not a legal or official determination. Outpost’s maps, scorecards and guides are general information only. They aren’t legal, engineering, geologic, insurance, lending or real estate advice, and they aren’t a Natural Hazard Disclosure report. Before you rely on anything you see here, for example to buy, build on, insure or sell a property, check it with the issuing agency or a licensed professional. You are responsible for the decisions you make with it.
Data from others
The hazard data belongs to the government agencies listed on the data sources page, and each agency’s own terms and disclaimers apply. Outpost simplifies boundaries for the web, its data can be incomplete or out of date, and the live checks depend on agency services that can be slow or unavailable.
The base map, satellite imagery and address search come from Mapbox, under Mapbox’s terms. Map data includes OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Satellite imagery is from Mapbox and its providers, including Maxar.
Provided as-is
Outpost is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it is accurate, complete, up to date, fit for a particular purpose or always available. To keep it free, the map and search have daily limits and can be paused, and we may change or stop any part of the site at any time.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Valencia Labs, LLC isn’t liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, that comes from using Outpost, relying on its data or results, or being unable to use it. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Fair use of the map and search
Outpost is meant for people looking up places. Please don’t:
- scrape, bulk-download or send automated queries to the map, the search, the scorecard checks or the map tiles;
- get around the daily limits, for example by rotating networks or addresses;
- use Outpost’s map key, tiles or search outside Outpost;
- overload, disrupt or try to break into the site, its admin pages or the services behind it;
- present Outpost’s results as an official determination, or suggest that we or an agency endorse your use of them.
Search engines are welcome to crawl and render the site as robots.txt allows. We may block access that breaks these rules.
Sharing and our content
You are welcome to link to any page, share scorecard links and quote short passages from the guides with a link back. Outpost’s own text, design and code are © Valencia Labs, LLC. These terms give no rights to the agencies’, Mapbox’s or other third-party data.
Links to other sites
Outpost links to agency websites and other services that we don’t control. Their content and policies are their own.
Privacy
The privacy policy explains what information passes through when you use Outpost and who receives it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version will appear on this page with a new effective date, and using Outpost after that means you accept it.
California law
The laws of the State of California govern these terms, except where federal law applies. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
